OUR HOME

We moved into our home in Central Austin in 2017 and have been nesting ever since. We’re lucky to have an open space for family gatherings, a fenced-in backyard, and an upstairs bedroom with a “treehouse” feel that would make a lovely nursery. Our street is full of young kids, and there’s a public pool a short walk away.

PARENTING PHILOSOPHY

We’re looking forward to all the day-to-day things families share: toting an infant through the grocery store, rummaging in the dirt of our garden with a toddler, and hearing about school at the dinner table.

OUR EXTENDED FAMILY

Drew’s side of the family is far-flung but tight-knit. With family in San Francisco, Brooklyn, and L.A., we’ve gotten used to planning visits for birthdays, baptisms, and any other excuse for a gathering. Zac’s side of the family has deep and continuing roots in Central Texas. Zac’s mom is a child-development specialist, and Zac’s dad is a retired music professor. They live near Zac’s sister, brother-in-law, and nephew just south of Austin.

HOW WE MET

We had an international fix-up! A mutual friend then living in the Philippines decided to set us up from across the Pacific. As it turned out, her timing was perfect: Drew was about to move to Washington, D.C., where Zac lived at the time. When Zac moved home to Texas, Drew came along.

OUR TRAVELS

We love to travel! Together, we’ve visited Thailand, Cambodia, Japan, South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mexico, and many corners of the United States. We believe learning about other cultures and languages is important and that the best way to do that is visiting as many different places as possible. We hope to take our child to some of our favorite places and to continue discovering new ones together.

5 Things About

Zac

When I grew up I wanted to be a paleontologist .

I am really good at stand-up paddleboard yoga.

I am terrible at winding down at the end of the day. I can always think of one more thing to do.

I realized I was no longer cool when I taught high school and my students started calling me “Sir.” .

5 Things About

Drew

When I grew up I wanted to be an airline pilot.

I am really good at picking combinations of ice cream flavors at Amy’s Ice Creams.

I am terrible at deciding what to have for dinner. There are too many good choices!

I realized I was no longer cool when I moved to Texas and people started calling me “Sir.”

In Drew’s Words

Zac is one of the most intelligent, caring, curious, and principled people I’ve ever known. When we were first getting to know each other, I loved hearing about his childhood love of comic books and running a neighborhood library out of his wagon. I see how much he enjoys spending time playing and serving as a role model to our niece and nephews.

In Zac’s Words

Drew is one of the most loving people I’ve ever met. He’s exuberant about everything he loves, from his family to running to dancing to cooking. He often says that kids like him because he’s like a big, moving jungle gym. But I think it’s because they can see how much fun he’s having.
