We are so excited to bring a child into our family and our lives. We have always wanted to become parents and are looking forward to sharing our loving home, the kindness of our family and the support of our community with a daughter or son. We hope you gain a sense of what life with us would be like and thank you for considering us in your journey!
We met in Mexico at the wedding of mutual friends in 2013 and we connected instantly. We bonded over the importance of family, our love of travel and adventure, and our passion for our work. After 3 years of dating, we got married at a vineyard in Northern California amongst our closest friends and family.
We both work for local tech companies, which affords us a lot of flexibility as we become new parents. We also love the outdoors and can frequently be found kayaking in the lakes of Austin or hiking in the hills nearby.
Heidi
When I grew up I wanted to be an astronaut.
I am really good at building things.
I am terrible at singing. But I still sing all the time. 😊
My favorite quote is “To laugh is to live profoundly” – Milan Kundera
I realized I was no longer cool when I didn’t know what a Kardashian was.
Brett
When I grew up I wanted to be a veterinarian.
I am really good at making people smile.
I am terrible at drawing (its so bad it makes people laugh).
My favorite quote is Que Sera Sera, Whatever will be will be, the future is not ours to see. Que Sera Sera
I realized I was no longer cool when I preferred early wake ups to late night rendezvous.
PETS
Heidi adopted Shipley in 2009 and moved in with Brett in 2014. Shipley is loving, gentle and the best side kick a family could ask for. She’s a great hiking buddy and loves spending time basking in the sun and begging for treats!
OUR HOME
We live in a home and neighborhood that is ideal for raising a family. Our house is spacious, with plenty of room for a child and areas to play inside and out. We have a large backyard with a fire pit, perfect for roasting s’mores on cool fall evenings.
We chose the neighborhood initially for the great schools and the walkability, but the community has quickly become our favorite part of coming home. It’s common to see neighborhood families on their front porches at the end of the day laughing, playing and relaxing together. We give each other homemade goods like home baked bread, honey, and jam. We are also walking distance from parks, walking trails, neighborhood pools and tons of other activities.
HOBBIES
Travelling is a big part of our lives. Heidi has lived in Europe and explored little known parts of the world as a Peace Corps Volunteer. Brett lived in Uruguay and Peru after college and developed a passion for all things Latin American. We have bonded over our love for learning about and visiting different cultures and feel it’s important for our child to experience and learn about other parts of the world firsthand.
We also love getting outside! Heidi has passion for hiking, camping, skiing, horseback riding and mountaineering. Basically all things mountains. Brett loves healthy activities that clear the mind, like running and biking. He also prefers being near the water and enjoys scuba diving, snorkeling, paddle boarding and tubing.
We also enjoy playing lots of different games included board games, card games, lawn games, and party games with our friends. We are essentially a house of games 😊.
HOW WE MET
Like the beginning of all great romantic comedies, we met at a wedding of close friends! Heidi is friends with the bride, Brett with the groom. Over the 2 days at the wedding, we were both taken in by the great conversation and amazing life adventures the other person had.
After we returned home, we decided to start a long-distance relationship. At the time Heidi was living in Houston and Brett was in Atlanta. We spent hours on the phone every day and traveled to see each other as much as our bank accounts would allow. We bonded over our love of travel and adventure, our shared importance of family and the ability to make each other laugh.
WHAT ADOPTION MEANS TO US
It has always been a lifelong dream of ours to have kids. However, after several rounds of infertility treatment, it became clear that we would not be able to conceive our own child. Heidi, in particular, had been passionate about adoption and began researching options. We have several close friends who have open adoptions and saw the loving and caring families they created. Additionally, we have witnessed the bond the children have with their adoptive families as well as their birth parents, which has been inspiring. We would be honored to get the opportunity to be parents and feel this is the right path for our family.
