Lara and Matt
Lara and Matt have welcomed a new child into their home and are no longer available to be matched with. Other families are still waiting though, and you can VIEW THEM HERE. To learn about additional families or to speak with an adoption specialist, please call Adoption Advocates at (512) 477-1122.
We’ve been together for fifteen years and married since 2011. It was love at first sight, and we’ve been best friends ever since. Lara is an author, having just publisher her first novel (and it’s even being made into a TV show!). Matt works for an animal protection charity and is also an author (he published a cookbook in 2018). We both work from home, which means lots and lots of family time. We love laughing and are constantly making each other smile. We enjoy traveling, making dinners with friends, taking our dog, Mo, on adventures, watching movies, hiking, playing games, volunteering, and generally just staying active and engaged with the world.
Lara
When I grew up I wanted to be a writer…and I did it!
I am really good at impromptu dance parties .
I am terrible at cooking – but that’s why I have Matt (and I do all the grocery shopping).
My best mom joke is What’s Forrest Gump’s password? 1forrest1.
I realized I was no longer cool when I still thought the running man was a hip dance move.
Matt
When I grew up I wanted to be an actor, despite my total lack of talent!
I am really good at acting. Just kidding. But I’m really good at making people laugh!
I am terrible at running errands (ugh!)
My best dad joke is What does a vegetarian zombie eat? GRAAAIINNNS!
I realized I was no longer cool when… Wait? Am I not cool?!
PETS
We have a puppy named Mo, who is the friendliest dog ever! She loves kids, babies, cats, other dogs—everybody. We also have two cats named Noah and Scout. They’re also very friendly and follow Mo around all day. They all like to spend time in the backyard lying around in the sun.
OUR HOME
We know you want your baby to be raised in a nice environment, and that’s what we want to provide! Our home has 3 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms and an office. It has a huge living room that’s also the dining room and kitchen – a big open space that’s perfect for family time. The nursery has large windows with plenty of natural light, and its own bathroom with a bathtub. We also have a large fenced-in backyard with an outdoor kitchen, couch, and more. And we even have a separate a playhouse in the yard! Also, our home is in a really kid-friendly neighborhood – very residential and walking distance to two playgrounds, a public pool, movie theater, children’s museum, a lake, and more.
OUR VALUES
Our biggest value is compassion. We believe in treating everyone with respect, regardless of their color, gender, sexuality, or any other factor. We believe in protecting the environment. We believe black lives matter. We believe in open borders. We’ve both been involved in activism and volunteering for decades (it’s even how we met!). We’re both aware of how privileged we are in life and believe in speaking out for those who are less fortunate or don’t have a strong voice themselves.
OUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY
We know that when you trust your baby to a couple, it’s not just the two of them adopting the child, but their whole network! Both of our families and all our friends are loving and supportive and excited to welcome your baby into the family. We have a large friend group here in Austin and throughout the entire country. We live a few houses away from our very good friends (who also have a baby) and spend a lot of time making dinner at one of our homes, taking their son for walks, watching movies together, and more. Matt’s family lives in New England and is so excited to visit. His sister is about to have a baby too. Lara’s large family lives in Pittsburgh and Chicago. Her sister has three young sons who are already asking about their new cousin.
WHAT ADOPTION MEANS TO US
For us, adoption has always been our first choice. Long before we even met, each of us had decided that if we were to have kids, it would be through adoption. We want to help an expectant mother like you find a fun, supportive, safe, and loving home for her baby. We also want our baby to know where he or she came from and have a connection to you. We can’t imagine what a hard decision this must be for you, and just want to say that whatever you choose, we know it’ll be the best choice for you and your baby-to-be. We have so much love and respect for you already! Thank you for considering us!
