If you’re considering making an adoption plan for your child, taking the first step can be scary and overwhelming. You don’t have to do it alone. At Adoption Advocates, you’ll be partnered with an adoption counselor that will guide you through the adoption process, talk through your fears and concerns, and help you with access to medical care and a safe living situation.
Modern adoption means you’ll be in control throughout the process. You’ll have the ability to make choices for yourself and your baby’s future. As you are making your adoption plan, you’ll be able to:
- Choose the adoptive family
- Decide how open you’d like the relationship with the adoptive family to be
- Who will be with you to provide support during labor and delivery
- What the baby’s name will be on his or her original birth certificate
- How much time you’ll spend with the baby at the hospital
You’ll also get to decide how much contact you’d like with the adoptive family after placement. Although post-adoption contact agreements are not legally enforceable in Texas, we educate our adoptive families to understand the importance of maintaining a relationship with their child’s biological parents. Research has shown this benefits everyone – especially your child – and we’re always here to help you navigate that relationship.
