Hi friends! We are Travis and Katie, plus our two dogs Ziggy and LouAnn. We are so happy that you decided to take a look at our profile. We hope that this helps you to get to know us a little bit and gives you a sense of who we are and what we care about. We are so excited to welcome a small person into our home, to read books with, to play guitar with, to tell our terrible jokes to, and to love with all of our hearts. We send you all of our best wishes and deepest admiration as you continue on whatever journey lays ahead of you.

We are a family of two adults and two lazy dogs, who all love to have a good time. We enjoy going on road trips and having adventures, telling corny jokes, watching 80’s horror movies, and listening to and playing music. We are both so lucky to have extremely caring and supportive families, some of whom are close to us in Central Texas and others farther away on the east coast. We also have an extremely close-knit community of friends and their families, all of whom can’t wait to welcome another smaller member with open arms.

Our family is so full of love, happiness, and laughter, but we are missing the last piece to our puzzle. We are so hopeful that you are able to feel our caring by reading through our profile. We welcome you with open arms into our family.

OUR HISTORY

Travis was born in Oklahoma but doesn’t like to talk about it. Thankfully, for him, his family quickly moved to the Texas hill country to be closer to his extended gaggle of aunts, uncles, and cousins. Travis went to the University of Texas for both his undergrad and graduate degrees, a constant source of frustration for his dad who played football at Texas Tech. But lucky for Katie, because UT is where they met, in the master’s program for Social Work! Travis has worked in kitchens, on farms, and for a number of different social service programs. Currently he works for a tech company that provides a search engine for people looking for help and support. Travis also maintains his love of farming, local food, and teaching kids about cooking through his personal relationships and his volunteer work.

Katie was born in New Jersey and got to Texas as soon as she could, although she maintains her love of both Bruce Springsteen and Bon Jovi. She has lived from the east coast to the west, from Massachusetts to Arizona, and back again. Katie settled in Austin in 2010, drawn by the live music scene, swimming in Barton Springs in February, and maybe cheap tattoos, and she hasn’t looked back since. Katie has always loved being around children and after graduating college spent time working in special education classrooms. In 2016 she decided to follow her dream of becoming a social worker and completed her master’s degree at UT Austin. She is currently a school social worker, her dream job, that allows her to support and empower children and their families.

PETS

We have two sweet and lazy dogs. Ziggy is a 12 year old English bulldog mixed with Gremlin and LouAnn is a 6 year old rescue mutt, maybe some type of hound. Our dogs love sleeping, treats, and snuggles, in that order. They get along great with kids, adults and other dogs and are excited to welcome another member to their pack.

OUR HOME

We live in a sweet neighborhood in Pflugerville, a suburb just north of Austin. Pflugerville is a diverse town with a strong sense of community. Our house is within walking distance of a number of playgrounds and parks, and is also right on a trail system, giving us easy access to creeks, streams, and cows. Our 3 bedroom/ 2 bathroom home, built in the ‘80s and lovingly cared for, is filled with music, movies, art, and good food. We have a vegetable garden and a fire pit in our backyard and our 1964 Shasta camper, Penelope, parked in the driveway.

EXTENDED FAMILY

Travis’s family live in Texas. His parents, sister and nephew live in Bulverde, TX, outside of San Antonio. We are lucky to get to spend a lot of time with our nephew. He also has a lot of family just north of us around Killeen, TX.

Katie’s family lives on the East Coast, but love to visit Texas for the holidays. Her parents and grandmother are in New Jersey and her sister lives in Brooklyn, NY.

HOBBIES

Travis loves spending time in the backyard garden, cooking for friends, and watching and rewatching movies from the ‘80s. Katie enjoys hiking, reading, and spending time with people that she loves. Together we spend time listening to music and going to live shows, volunteering, and going on road trips.

WHAT ADOPTION MEANS TO US

Adoption, to us, is the way that we see our family growing into what we always dreamed it could be. We both love spending time with children; creating memories, traditions, and laughter. It has always been our dream to be parents, to share the love that we have for each other. We have so much respect and admiration for birth families and are so grateful that this experience will not only grow our family, but will also bring so many new sources of love into our lives. Through open adoption we hope to grow not only our home, but our village of support.

5 Things About

Katie

My favorite birthday was my 21st when my friends took me on an actual pirate cruise! It was our group of 20 something’s and all the rest were grandparents with little kids, and it was great! It’s also where I learned my favorite pirate joke, How much does it cost a pirate to pierce his ear? A buck an ear (get it, buccaneer)!

If I could only watch one movie for the rest of my life it would be Airheads.

My favorite quote is by Vincent Van Gogh. “I know nothing with any certainty, but the sight of the stars makes me dream.”

I mentor a kiddo in the school district that I work for. She’s going to be in 5th grade this year!

My three superpowers are: giving compliments, parallel parking, and making kids smile.

5 Things About

Travis

If I was a superhero I would be The Blob

When I was little my dream job was to be a cartoonist. I even took lessons with the creator of the cartoon Rocky and Bullwinkle.

If I could only watch one movie for the rest of my life it would be Tommy Boy. Chris Farley is one of my favorites!

If there was a movie about my life I would be played by Matthew McConaughey, alright, alright, alright!

I teach little kids about food and how to cook through a nonprofit organization called PEAS.
