Many parents come to adoption knowing only what they’ve seen in movies or heard second (or third or fourth) hand. Your real life as an adoption-built family will be quite different than how the media portrays it. Join us for this adoption training for prospective adoptive parents and gain valuable insight into the journey ahead.

During the workshop, you’ll explore how to:

  • Deal with the realities of adoption, including intrusive questions and comments
  • Acknowledge the real, basic differences in adoption-built families
  • Navigate all types of relationships, or lack of a relationship, with biological parents
  • Talk to children about their adoption story

You’ll also hear from a panel of birth parents who placed their children as they share honestly their reasons for choosing adoption, their lives afterward, and what their open adoption looks like today. Many of our participants say this is the most beneficial aspect of the seminar.

This interactive workshop is led by Janie Cravens, LCSW-ACP. Janie has worked in the field of child welfare since 1979, focusing on adoption, infertility, birth parent concerns, child development and attachment. She was one of the pioneers of open adoption and has participated in literally thousands of placements over her forty year career.

Cost: $125/individual or $200/couple
