Destin & Navid

Destin and Navid have recently welcomed a new baby into their home and are no longer available to be matched with. Other families are still waiting though, and you can view some of them here. To learn about additional families or to speak with an adoption counselor, please call (512) 477-1122.

We are so excited to be growing our family through open adoption. Our home and marriage is full of love and laughter, and we are overjoyed to have this opportunity to share that with a child. We have a great circle of friends in Austin who are very supportive of us on this journey, as well as extended family around the country who can’t wait to welcome the newest member of our family. We have a deep love and respect for the decision you are making now and hope to be able to meet you in person!

When I grew up I wanted to be a translator, a chef and a pediatrician.

I am really good at making others laugh.

I am terrible at making the bed.

My favorite quote is “Use it up. Wear it out.
Make do, or do without.” – Destin’s Mom

I realized I was no longer cool when I used to teach high school and could only understand about 50% of what my students were talking about.

When I grew up I wanted to be an astronaut.

I am really good at planning a party.

I am terrible at washing the dishes.

OUR HOME

We live on a quiet residential street in South Austin with a community pool where we want to teach our children how to swim. Our house is across the street from a great coffee & taco truck and just a short walk away from a city park. We love being in South Austin because it is close to downtown and some of our favorite hiking trails, but also is a bit quieter and has a nice family feel.

HOBBIES

We love to spend our time exploring Austin, whether that means kayaking on Town Lake, going for a hike on the Greenbelt, or enjoying a cup of iced coffee on the rooftop garden at the Central Library. Navid is an avid singer, volunteer in the community, and an amazing dance partner. Destin loves working in the garden, playing sand volleyball, and reading a good book in the backyard while laying in the hammock.

PARENTING PHILOSOPHY

For us, the most important thing is that our child knows they are loved for exactly who they are. We want to raise our child to respect others, be compassionate, and to approach the world with a sense of curiosity and adventure. Ours will be a home where you are taught to work hard for what you want and to fight for what you believe in.

OUR EXTENDED FAMILY

Our future child will be loved and welcomed by an extended family that not only includes many aunts, uncles, and grandparents on both sides, but also dozens of cousins to play with. We both have great memories of summers and holidays spent with our cousins growing up and are so excited that our child will be able to have that as well. And of course, we can’t talk about extended family without mentioning our “urban family” of close friends who are a daily source of fun, laughter, and friendship.

HOW WE MET

We met in New York on OK Cupid many years ago just as dating apps were starting to take off. For our first date, we went to a neighborhood cafe for tea and pie, and by the time our plates were cleared, we were both hooked. After a couple years in New York, our careers took us to Singapore for another two years, before coming back to Texas and setting down roots in Austin. We have become each others best friends and greatest supporters, and can’t wait to grow our family together.
