Chris and Grant, a gay couple hoping to adopt a baby in Texas, with their two dogs.
Chris & Grant

Grant and Chris have welcomed a new child into their home and are no longer available to be matched with. Other families are still waiting though, and you can VIEW THEM HERE. Howdy! We are Chris and Grant and we’re elated that you’re taking a look at our profile. Our hope is that you’ll get an authentic view into our lives, families, philosophy, and come to know a bit more about us. We’re excited and ready to welcome a son or daughter into our home and shower them with love.

Grant is from Arkansas, but was born in Hawaii, and ended up in Austin by attending The University of Texas. Chris is a native Austinite (something he is quite proud of). He actually grew up on the same street that we live on today! We’ve been together since 2012 and we were married in 2015 on top of a mountain in Telluride, Colorado.

Three years ago, we both left the corporate world to start an organic farm together. Now we supply grocery stores across Texas and the surrounding states with all kinds of tasty and healthy salad greens and herbs! When we’re not farming, we love to cook, travel, spend time with our dogs, and invent new dance moves in our kitchen.

Chris

When I grew up I wanted to be a marine biologist.

I am really good at fishing, cooking, building furniture.

I am terrible at dancing (but it doesn’t stop me from trying) .

My favorite quote is “Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.” –Oscar Wilde

My best dad joke is Why can’t you hear a pterodactyl go to the bathroom? Because the pee is silent.

I realized I was no longer cool when I didn’t know how to pronounce GIF (actually, I still don’t) .

When I grew up I wanted to be an environmentalist.

I am really good at sports, gardening, eating pizza.

I am terrible at sitting still.

My favorite quote is “Remember that wherever your heart is, there you will find your treasure.”
-Paulo Coehlo

My best dad joke is What did the pirate say on his 80th birthday? AYE MATEY

I realized I was no longer cool when I thought Cardi-B was a type of heart disease.

OUR HOME

We live in a quaint central Austin neighborhood in a 1950’s bungalow that Chris and his Dad completely renovated. We are walking distance to the local elementary school (where Chris attended when he was a child!), parks, and our favorite ice cream shop and bakery. We have a large backyard with huge shade trees, fruit trees, and a beautiful garden that Grant manages. We love our neighbors and their kids and often find ourselves trading Grant’s garden veggies over the fence for backyard chicken eggs.

OUR PETS

We have two four-year-old dogs: Millie (a Vizsla) and Winslow (a German Shorthaired Pointer).  They keep us constantly laughing and we take them pretty much everywhere we go.  They are loving bundles of energy and happiness!

OUR HOBBIES

Grant loves to spend time in his garden and hiking the Austin greenbelts with the dogs in search of the perfect swimming hole. Chris loves cooking and spending time fishing with his family on the Texas coast.

OUR EXTENDED FAMILY

Chris’s family all live in the Austin area and spend a lot of time together. His sister and brother-in-law have four kids, so it is always a full house when we all get together. Grant’s parents live in Arkansas but spend a lot of time visiting Austin. His sister is a traveling yoga instructor and splits her time between Austin and Central America.

HOW WE MET

We met in 2012. I suppose technically we met online, but we already knew of each other because, funny enough, we had at different times, dated the same guy! Our first date was at a pub and after a few dinners and a day paddle boarding on Lady Bird Lake, we both knew we had found someone special. Over the next few years we slowly began building our life together and we got married in 2015 in Telluride, Colorado on top of a mountain!

PARENTING PHILOSOPHY

We want to raise our child to be curious, thoughtful, and compassionate in an environment of acceptance and support. We will encourage them to explore their thoughts, feelings, and emotions independently while we, as parents, act as guides to help our child in their path to self-discovery and value creation.

WHAT ADOPTION MEANS TO US

We’ve always dreamed of becoming dads and adoption is the perfect option for us to grow our family. Both of us come from very family-oriented families and we look forward to raising a child, watching them grow, and giving them all of the love we have in our hearts.
